A Fine Pair of Export Pewter Soup Plates by Thomas Compton - SOLD

John Townsend was without question the most prolific of all English Export Pewterers. He was a Quaker and had strong ties to the Quaker Community in Pennsylvania.

Over his career he had a number of partnerships including one with his Son-in-Law, Thomas Compton. After John Townsend's death in 1801, Thomas Compton produced pewter on his own and later in partnership with his son, Townsend Compton. The dates for these 8" soup plates would be circa 1802-1814.

In very fine condition with only a few minor blemishes, these plates also exhibit the high quality hammered booges as seen on all flatware produced by the Townsend Dynasty.
