An English Export Pewter Plate by Compton

An English Export Pewter Plate by Thomas & Townsend Compton, London or just Thomas Compton alone. This plate is marked with a large Compton touch and Made in London marks. Some believe this marking pattern is the former group while it is quite possible it is the latter. Thomas Compton according to the Pewter Society’s database, set up a separate shop in Osborn Place in 1789 while he was in partnership with Townsend & Compton.

This plate is in nearly new condition. The plate is free of knife marks and lathe marks show clearly on the rim front and back. The hammered bouge is nearly perfect. The touches are mint as struck.
