A Near Mint Pewter Basin by Edward Danforth

This is without question the finest condition Edward Danforth pewter basin we have ever had. This in fact is in nearly new condition with only the very slightest of wear or age. The lathe marks show clearly both on the front and back of the basin.

On backs of basins the portion that sat flat against a table was “roughly” turned much like the back of the boss on porringer bowls. This area has hardly any abrasions indicating it was rarely used. The condition is such that this may have been used as a baptismal bowl in a church.

The touch is mint “as struck” and shows absolutely no wear. The bowl measures 7 7/8” in diameter.

I can safely say it would be nearly impossible to improve upon this example.
