A Near Mint Large Size "Bishop's Hat" Pewter Porringer - SOLD
Bishop’s hat eared pewter porringer, large size. The ear (handle) on this porringer has been called a “Bishop’s Hat as the outline is similar to the “Mitre” hat worn by Bishops and Abbots. It is believed that these porringers date from circa 1820-40. The bowl has a boss center and an outward tapered bowl with an outward curved lip at the top. This example has a bowl of 4 ½” in diameter. The porringer is in near mint condition an clearly shows the lathe finishing marks on the interior and exterior of the bowl.
Sometimes the bowls on these are rather thin, this example is particularly heavy. The linen mark is clear a nice example for sure. (ON HOLD)
