This saucer base whale oil lamp was produced in Roswell Gleason's shop in Dorchester, MA.
Gleason had a major pewter/britannia manufacturing concern and was in operation from 1821-71.
He produced a wide variety of forms and was at the "cutting edge" of current design trends.
This lamp dates from the whaling period, circa 1821-50. In very good condition. There is some minor pitting on the top side of the saucer and some pitting on the underside. The lamp measures 4 3/4" tall to the top of the burner.
